Douglas Gordon’s themes are time, memory and the psychological mechanisms of people in relation to a changing social structure. One of his works is 24 Hour Psycho, a video version of Hitchcock´s classic, stretched out to 24 hours. The photo Psycho Hitchhiker shows the artist hitchhiking. The destination on his sign is “Psycho”. A multi-layered network of associations and references – hitchhiker and Hitchcock, road movies and the motive of the hitchhiker, the black and white photo and the B movies of the 60´s – make this simple photo into a complex distillation.
