The large-scale installation Ich oder das Chaos (Inv. No. 0312), created in 2018, is the first work by Franz Kapfer in the EVN headquater. The artist, born in 1971 in Fürstenfeld, deals with symbols and structures of power in his work. The starting point of the work is ornamentation from a gate at the Louvre. The former royal palace was opened to the public as a museum in 1773 and further expanded under Napoleon Bonaparte. Franz Kapfer transfers Napoleonic symbols (lightning, bees, eagle, “N”) onto plywood panels and detaches them from the building as ornaments in a new context. As signs, they clarify the powerful visual representation of Bonaparte.
