Dimo Todorovski, who was born in Thessaloniki in 1910 and lived and worked in Skopje, was the first academically trained Macedonian sculptor. Unfortunately, many of his sculptures from before World War II were destroyed. In addition to his works with social themes, Dimo Todorovski created numerous sculptures in plaster and bronze, as well as several public monuments throughout Macedonia.
The work “Andante,” at nearly life-size, depicts a seated male figure playing the cello, an evocative gesture that gives it psychological depth and a sense of duration. This scene stems from the artist’s personal experience, who modeled the figure from memory.
